New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she has never felt safe in the Capitol and claimed some officers helped Jan. 6 rioters.
While talking to people outside the Capitol, the Democrat said authorities never “got to the bottom” of whether officers aided the rioters who stormed the Capitol last year.
“There were actual officers working with this, and we never got to the bottom of that, and we never got any answers about that,” she said Wednesday.
“I have no idea what happened to the people on the inside, who were very clearly sympathetic with what was going on and opening the doors wide open for that,” AOC added.
It is unclear what she was referencing when she mentioned officers were “opening the doors” to rioters, but many argued that the officers didn’t stop them from entering the building or never told them they weren’t allowed inside, reported the Washington Examiner.
“I’m supposed to sit here and pretend like none of that ever happened. And then, right afterwards, you just have this idea that throwing money at that problem is going to make it go away without any accountability,” AOC continued.
“This is where these things are breaking down. We’re not safe. And it’s not just about members of Congress not being safe, the food staff workers aren’t safe, the janitors aren’t safe,” she said.
“We need to get to the bottom of this,” she said before walking away.
Earlier Wednesday, AOC was harassed by right-wing instigator Alex Stein, who approached the congresswoman and called her his “favorite big booty Latina”.
“She wants to kill babies but she’s still beautiful. You look very beautiful in that dress. You look very sexy. Look at that booty on AOC,” Stein said.
“It’s just a bummer to work in an institution that openly allowed this, but talking about it only invites more. Just really sad,” she said on Twitter. “I was actually walking over to deck him because if no one will protect us then I’ll do it myself but I needed to catch a vote more than a case today”.
