Biden Says Second Amendment Is Not Absolute Ignores School Security

Joe Biden is once again preaching that the second amendment to the constitution is not absolute and that a ban on “assault weapons” is necessary. The rhetoric comes immediately following a string of mass shootings occurring in the short frame of a few weeks.

Much of the constitution is left vague, and up for interpretation so that the document can adapt as time goes on. The second amendment however is very clear; “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

To infringe upon, as defined by Oxford, is to break an agreement. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be broken. It shall remain and not be affected.

Joe Biden says that legislation prohibiting the sale of certain firearms is “common sense,” it needs no explanation.

The President remarked, “I respect the culture, the tradition, the concerns of lawful gun owners. At the same time, the Second Amendment, like all other rights, is not absolute.”

“This isn’t about taking away anyone’s rights. It’s about protecting children. It’s about protecting families. It’s about protecting whole communities. It’s about protecting our freedoms to go to school, to a grocery store, to a church without being shot and killed.”

Biden ignores the fact that Republicans in Congress have been doing their best to pass bipartisan legislation that would protect children, by securing their schools.

This legislation has been shot down in the Senate by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer who refuses to even allow the topic of school safety to be discussed unless Republicans get on board with gun control.
