A Black woman in Georgia has been accused of posing as a member of the Ku Klux Klan and leaving racially motivated notes in families’ mailboxes.
The 30-year-old woman, Terresha Lucas, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with eight counts of terroristic threats and acts.
Lucas appeared in court Thursday and was denied bond, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
At some point, families in Douglasville told WGCL-TV that they had received notes from a male KKK member threatening to kill them. This has been occurring since last December.
One father reported that “The letter is using the N-word, talking about the KKK, hanging people, killing kids, killing whole families and setting houses on fire”.
Detectives Nathan Shumaker and Andre Futch finally connected evidence to Lucas after a long investigation. Shumaker stated, “The notes threatened to burn their houses down and kill them and said that they didn’t belong in the neighborhood”.
Police reported that other notes were found in mailboxes on Feb. 17, Feb. 22, March 1 and March 3. The final one was placed Sept. 6 and police were able to link the letters to Lucas’ house, which they searched for evidence.
Lucas is still in custody at the Douglas County jail and is expected to turn herself in this week.
