A mother from California claims her 13-year-old son was offered pizza to get a COVID-19 vaccine without her consent and was told not to say anything about it.
Maribel Duarte reported to NBC Los Angeles Monday that her son had come home one day with a vaccine card and told her he accepted the shot after being offered pizza.
Duarte is vaccinated and is not against them but said “It hurt to know he got a shot without my permission, without knowing and without signing any papers for him to get the shot”.
Her son attends school at Barack Obama Global Prep Academy in South Los Angeles.
Duarte explained that the person who gave her son a shot and signed the paper said “Please don’t say anything. I don’t want to get in trouble”.
The school is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, which saw a 6% drop in attendance this year due to a vaccine mandate for kids over 12 years old.
Students over 12 have to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Jan. 10, 2022, unless they have an exemption, or they will be forced back online.
The district told NBC it could not comment on the matter but said it follows a “safe schools to safe steps incentive program” that sets measures for vaccinated students to get prizes.
An LAUSD spokesperson told Fox News Digital that “the District introduced the Safe Schools to Safe Steps Incentive Program throughout Los Angeles Unified Schools”. “This program offers incentives to families who upload proof of their vaccine, have an approved medical exemption, or have conditional admissions,” they explained.
