The Daily Caller News Foundation reached out to every single congressman and woman sitting on the January 6th Select Committee to ask them when they would hold a prime-time hearing on the George Floyd riots of 2020.
So far, none of the representatives on the committee have actually given a response, and likely will not.
The riots ravaged private, state government, and federal government property alike. The riots injured hundreds and killed dozens. The damage added up to roughly $1-$2 billion, yet some Democratic reps still defend the riots.
“I haven’t been able to talk to the congressman about this yet,” a spokesperson for Rep Jamie Raskin said. A spokesperson for Liz Cheney did little more than reiterate that the congresswoman denounces the unrest.
The January 6th riot was unorganized, the FBI found scant evidence of coordination. Only one person, Ashli Babbitt died due to violence – she was one of the rioters shot and killed by an officer on the scene. The damage was minuscule and pales in comparison to the 2020 riots.
So why is congress so outraged about the January 6th riot, but not the George Floyd riots? Because they don’t care about riots. They care about witch-hunting Donald Trump and any other Republican who follows him. They aim to make Trump supporters afraid and ashamed.
The committee has made clear that their intention in holding the hearings on prime-time television is to make voters think hard about the 2024 election.
As a CNN analyst correctly pointed out, there is no burden of proof that the committee must meet. There is no defense for the accused because democrats would not allow sympathetic Republicans to sit on the committee. In a normal legal hearing, the accused would have a defense.
“A prosecutor has to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, the standard for a member of Congress saying it’s a crime is they feel like saying it’s a crime,” CNN’s Elie Honig said. “There was no cross-examination,” he explained.
