The daughter of Alexander Dugin, an apparent “spiritual guide” to Putin was killed in a car bombing in the outskirts of Moscow.
Dugin has been referred to as “Putin’s brain”. CNN describes the man as an influential, ultra-nationalist philosopher.
The Kremlin has reportedly blamed Kyiv and Russians have vowed to strike back.
CNN reported The Russian Investigative Committee said it believed someone planned and ordered the car explosion that killed Darya Dugina, based on evidence already collected from the blast. “Taking into account the data already obtained, the investigation believes that the crime was pre-planned and was of an ordered nature,” the investigative committee said in a statement Sunday.
Dugin and his late daughter are both people sanctioned by the United States and the UK. The nations describe the pair as “a frequent and high-profile contributor of disinformation in relation to Ukraine and the Russian invasion of Ukraine on various online platforms.”
Dugina was dead at the scene after an explosive device installed on the vehicle was detonated. The car caught fire on a public road in the outer parts the nation’s Capitol.
“The flames completely engulfed it. She lost control because she was driving at high speed and flew to the opposite side of the road,” a witness said.
Some Russians close to the incident believe that Alexander Dugin himself was the true target and that his daughter was killed by mistake.
After the attack, the Russian foreign ministry was quick to blame Ukraine, but Ukrainian officials deny that this is the case.
The war in Ukraine is quickly approaching the 6 months mark, and still, it’s unclear which side will back down first. Ukraine has been utterly torn apart, but that hasn’t deterred citizens and volunteers from fighting back.
Meanwhile, the United States has dumped billions of dollars into the war in order to stifle Russia. This aid comes in the form of humanitarian care but also tanks, missiles, guns, and other arms that can be used offensively or defensively.
Some Ukrainian officials have already stated their intention to go on the offensive against Russia.
“These fireworks mean that Crimea is coming back to Ukraine,” said Serhiy Bratchuk, after explosions had been reported on Russian bases in Crimea. Bratcuk is a spokesman for the Odesa region’s military administration
The question is, will the United States and other western nations continue to fund the war?
The United States alone has promised more than $58 billion and rising, this is more than the entire yearly budget for the UK’s own military. The U.S. has so far provided more than $8 billion of the whole number, which totals more than what we spent during the first 5 years of the Afghanistan war.
America has sent Howitzer and Javelin missiles worth more than $70,000 per shot, while the UK and France have respectively sent their own Howitzer artillery vehicles and other equipment.
