Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation Monday that prohibits protests outside of private homes in the Florida.
The law comes after protesters gathered at the homes of Supreme Court justices in recent weeks to protest the potential overturn of Roe v. Wade.
Protesters have visited the homes of Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Samuel Alito, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett in Virginia and Maryland.
“HB 1571, which prohibits picketing and protesting outside of a person’s place of residence,” flgov.com reported.
“Sending unruly mobs to private residences, like we have seen with the angry crowds in front of the homes of Supreme Court justices, is inappropriate,” DeSantis said in a statement.
“This bill will provide protection to those living in residential communities and I am glad to sign it into law,” he added.
State Sen. Keith Perry of Gainesville sponsored the bill, saying “This bill recognizes the right of privacy, safety and peace that we all deserve in our own home”.
DeSantis’ press secretary, Christina Pushaw, tweeted “Sorry about your summer of rage. JK, not sorry,” in reference to protesters claiming they will cause chaos if Roe is overturned.
The new legislation is set to take effect on October 1.
