Gwen Berry, many know her as the Olympian who made third place at the Olympic trials in Oregon but refused to face the flag during the anthem.
Berry however claims to be an “activist” who stands against but has a troubled history of statements that paint a different picture.
Recently several tweets were unearthed where the athlete made obscene comments about white people, Asians, Mexicans, and rape.
David Hookstead with the Daily Caller wrote, “Does it matter? No. You know what I care about? I care about the fact we’re sending a woman to the Olympics who doesn’t even have the decency to stand and honor our national anthem while wearing our colors.”
“That matters. Old tweets do not. Sending Gwen Berry to the Olympics so that she can possibly embarrass and mock the USA on an international stage is a real problem that needs to be dealt with.”
These sentiments are entirely true. Despite Berry’s hypocrisy in her own activism, what matters most is that America is sending an athlete overseas to represent our country. This athlete, Gwen Berry does not support America. So why should she be able to compete in the countries name?
It doesn’t matter how good an athlete is, or who they are. If they can’t bring themselves to respect our nation and the opportunities it has given her, why should she be able to compete? This view is shared by many Americans.
