Twitter has formally accepted Elon Musk’s buyout and the left is melting down. Some users are threatening to leave the platform, others are going as far as to call Elon a “fascist” for working to restore free speech.
NBC reported, Twitter’s board has accepted an offer from billionaire Elon Musk to buy the social media company and take it private, the company announced Monday.
Amid the outrage, Elon Musk tweeted the following: “I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter because that is what free speech means”
Adi Gaskell responded by saying “I hope you won’t become a platform for spreading misinformation as that’s not what free speech means.”
Gaskell was quickly corrected, many pointing out that censoring “misinformation” only deepens the belief in false information. Misinformation must always be combatted through the exposure of correct information.
A user on Tik Tok with over 350 thousand followers named @my_doode warned his audience that Elon Musk acquiring Twitter is a sign of the times. He claimed that this was just another example of how fascism is on the rise in America.
The user claimed that there’s an “issue” with “this whole free speech thing”. He claimed that the reason Elon’s purchase would cause a “rise in American fascism” is because Donald Trump would likely be unbanned from the platform.
Oddly enough, forced suppression of political speech and political adversaries is the pinnacle of fascist behavior. This tactic of censorship has been used by every fascist leader to have led a nation. Fascists thrive on narrative control.
