New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has gotten the idea in her head that another statewide mask mandate is a good idea. Local leaders, Democrats and Republicans alike aren’t having it.
Fox News reported, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is facing pushback against her mask mandate from Republican and Democratic county executives who say they will not enforce the order on Long Island, north of the Big Apple and elsewhere in the Empire State.
The governor’s rule requires masks to be worn in all indoor establishments that are not private homes. The mandate applies to all citizens no matter their vaccination status. The penalty is of course a hefty $1,000 fine, hitting hardworking New Yorkers where it hurts worst during an economic crisis.
Hochul argued that the mandate “is not that big of a deal” for businesses that she’s “spoken to”. What is a big deal, is little by little whittling away the freedoms of citizens and businesses alike.
Businesses often like to be the least restrictive about who they serve as possible. The less restrictive they are, the more customers they receive. More customers obviously results in more profit.
As of now, over a dozen New York counties have come forward refusing to actually enforce Hochul’s new mandate. The Empire State in total has 62 counties.
A Republican named Marc Molinaro who represents the Poughkeepsie area tweeted, “As we educate & inform residents to take the necessary mitigation steps to protect themselves & those they love, we will not escalate tension or conflict or further burden our local small biz by allocating resources we do not have to this impractical & unenforceable measure.”
As more and more local leaders resist absurd mandates such as these, Americans will begin to realize that the importance of local offices. They will also (hopefully) learn the importance of standing up against government overreach.
