Just prior to Biden’s State of The Union address, mask requirements inside the Capitol building have been dropped according to Capitol physician Brian Monahan.
The Daily Caller reported, Monahan reportedly made the decision based on the current rate of positive results at the Capitol’s testing center, which has dropped to 2.7%, according to Politico. House members have been required to wear masks on the House floor, and many members have been fined for violating the mandate put in place by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who tends to follow Monahan’s guidance.
This means, that during the SOTU, the U.S. Capitol will be packed full maskless leaders from all around the nation. Many Americans see this as an astounding double standard.
If politicians don’t have to wear masks, why should average citizens have to while they’re at the airport, or even while shopping in some states? Why should children be forced to mask up in school?
There doesn’t appear to be a solid answer considering that recent studies actually show that cloth masks are virtually useless in stopping the spread of COVID-19.
Studies also show a low likelihood of transmission at school. Even liberal outlets like the Washington Post and New York Times have written articles with headlines corroborating this truth.
“Schools are not spreading covid-19. This new data makes the case.” One Washington Post article was headlined. Another from the NYT states, “Schoolchildren Seem Unlikely to Fuel Coronavirus Surges, Scientists Say”.
