As the Senate prepares for Trumps second impeachment trial, Mitch McConnell has indicated that he could be on board with this trial.
A Republican member of Congress told CNN
“Mitch told me he wants Trump gone, it is in his political interest to have him gone. It is in the GOP interest to have him gone. The question is, how do we get there?”
In order to convict the former president all 50 Democrats as well as 17 Republicans would have to vote in favour of the conviction.
However these Republicans should weigh in the cost of doing away with Trump. They may think voting for a conviction is in their political interest, but instead it may bring their political careers to a screeching halt.
The Republican Party is undergoing many changes, and Republican citizens remain loyal to President Trump.
