Governor Andrew Cuomo’s career just took a turn for the absolute worst.
According to New York’s Attorney General Letitia James, the scandal prone Governor sexually harassed multiple women currently, and previously in his staff between 2013 and 2020. The AG’s probe included interviews of 179 people and was 165 pages long.
“This is a sad day for New York because independent investigators have concluded that Governor Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women and, in doing so, broke the law,” AG James said in a statement.
The report includes allegations from 11 women, 9 of whom worked for the Governors office.
Andrew Cuomo has, in the past been an ardent supporter of the “believe survivors” movement.
In 2018 Cuomo Tweeted, “The allegations of sexual assault against Judge Kavanaugh are disturbing and deeply concerning. We owe it to the American people to #BelieveSurvivors. I call on the Senate to postpone any vote until these allegations are fully investigated.”
Ironically once investigated, Cuomo’s own Attorney General concluded that the allegations against him were true. Brett Kavanaugh on the other hand had virtually no evidence against him and was never found guilty of anything.
It goes without saying that “#BelieveSurvivors” didn’t apply to the Governor’s situation. Of course, he wanted everyone to believe that he was a rare exception.
Cuomo also proclaimed that elected officials “have a responsibility” to stand up for survivors of sexual abuse.
The Tweet read, “Elected leaders have a responsibility to stand up for survivors of sexual abuse. Senate Republicans must #BelieveSurvivors.”
His rule applies to cases of assault where the accused party hasn’t been proven guilty by any metric.
He also echoed that hashtag “#believe all survivors” once again. Perhaps Cuomo was simply over compensating for his own foul behavior. At this time he was more than 6 years into his reign of abuse.
