On Saturday a Washington DC pro-choice protestor was arrested and charged with robbery and destruction of property after stealing and smashing the video camera of Merica Now! reporter Cam Higby.
The incident happened as Higby filmed a counter-protestor, Tyler Smith at the event. The protestor used a megaphone to equate abortion to genocide. As Smith began to use the megaphone, protestors swarmed him, grabbing at his attire and equipment.
Eventually, a bystander grabbed Higby’s tripod then ripped it, and the connected camera from his hands. The pro-choice advocate then ran across the lawn of the national mall until he came upon a sidewalk where he smashed the camera on concrete.
Directly after he dropped the camera. When the SD card was recovered, footage revealed that the camera faced the suspect the entire time he fled the scene up until he smashed the device.
After the deed was done, the assailant ran directly into the arms of the police. He was promptly arrested and charged with robbery and the destruction of property.
When an officer asked why he had destroyed the camera, the unknown protestor responded by indicating that Higby and Smith should not have been at the event in the first place. He did not have an ID with him when the crime was committed.
