House Speaker Nancy Pelosi faces criticism for discussing the reports of the Taliban possessing billions of dollars of U.S. military equipment, claiming it’s “what happens” when troops leave.
In an interview with KPIX 5 News Tuesday, Pelosi stated that this is what happens when you withdraw. She added, ‘Some stuff is left there. It was thought that would be used. It was hoped that would be used by the Afghan military to defend its own country”.

Pelosi also defended Biden’s decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, claiming it reduced the chance of an attack on our homeland. She added that Biden made it clear that any attack would “be met forcefully”.
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan discussed the equipment Tuesday, stating that “a fair amount of it has fallen into the hands of the Taliban”. This included guns, ammunition, and helicopters.
Many lawmakers, including Democrats, are condemning Biden’s decision. Thousands of Americans have been left stranded in Afghanistan.
