Now that the Supreme Court has acted, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has vowed to ensure that all United States service members will have access to abortions.
Currently, federal law allows military physicians to perform abortions only if the woman’s life is in danger, if she’s been raped, or if the baby is the product of incest. This has been the status quo for some time. Why all of a sudden is Austin acting to change this law when before it was viewed as just fine?
Because Lloyd Austin is playing politics. If the Supreme Court had not overturned Roe vs. Wade, this law would have likely remained in place forever.
“I am committed to taking care of our people and ensuring the readiness and resilience of our Force. The Department is examining this decision closely and evaluating our policies to ensure we continue to provide seamless access to reproductive health care as permitted by federal law,” Austin remarked.
Directly following the SCOTUS decision, riots broke out across the country, flags burned in Washington D.C, Arizona’s State Legislature was held hostage and L.A. rioters attempt to murder others with flame throwers.
Violence is only likely to continue and worsen in the coming weeks and months. This violence will likely mark the start of a new era in America, a time of cultural shift. No longer will it be the norm in every state to kill babies due to personal inconvenience.
