Supreme Court Reinstates Death Penalty For 2013 Boston Marathon Bomber

After arguments from the Biden Administration, the Supreme Court has reinstated the death sentence for Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Tsarnaev, in 2013 killed 3 people near the finish line of the marathon. The 1st circuit court of appeals in Boston ruled that evidence was excluded thus eliminating execution. This evidence may have shown influence by Tsarnaev’s brother. Even if this was proven, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is still responsible for the massacre.

In a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court of the United States agreed with the Biden Administration’s arguments. The court ruled that it was wrong to discard the death penalty for Tsarnaev.

“Dzhokhar Tsarnaev committed heinous crimes. The Sixth Amendment nonetheless guaranteed him a fair trial before an impartial jury. He received one,” Clarence Thomas wrote in the majority decision.

The majority was comprised of the court’s 6 conservative judges. Each and every single liberal judge on the court voted against reinstating the penalty of death for the Boston Bomber.

This case created an odd situation, where the conservative judges on the court sided with the Biden Administration, and the liberal judges opposed.
