The Fight to Recall the Führer of Michigan Get Approved by Courts

In a photo provided by the Michigan Office of the Governor, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer addresses the state during a speech in Lansing, Mich., Friday, Aug. 14, 2020. The governor said that 4 million masks will be distributed to Michigan residents — free of charge — to help combat the coronavirus pandemic. The face coverings will go to low-income residents, seniors, schools and homeless shelters through a partnership of the state, Federal Emergency Management Agency and Ford Motor Co. Last Thursday, the Michigan Court of Appeals approved six recall petitions against Democratic Michigan Governor, Gretchen Whitmer.

Five of the petitions are about the governor handled the COVID-19 pandemic response.

Similar to New York, Whitmer’s administration also underreported the deaths caused by her COVID positive nursing home orders. Recovering patients would be sent to nursing and adult care facilities regardless if they were contagious or not.

Whitmer’s Campaign Spokesman, Mark Fisk, said, “We plan to appeal this disappointing decision, and we fully intend to beat back these irresponsible partisan attacks against the governor in the courts, on the streets, or at the ballot. This is part of a massive and coordinated attack by Republicans trying to make the governor fail, and our campaign will strenuously oppose these efforts so the governor can keep saving lives, reopening our economy, and creating jobs.”

To successfully continue the recall effort, signatures must exceed 25% of the total number of votes Whitmer received and all other candidates combined from the last election.

The signature target must be met within a 60 day window.
